The Journey In Numbers
Slow Travel, Measured Differently.
These numbers tell the story of miles travelled, borders crossed, and journeys taken by train and overland across Europe.
Every figure represents time spent exploring Europe more thoughtfully – one route, one landscape, one carriage window at a time.
Because the most meaningful journeys aren’t measured in speed, but in the moments you collect along the way.
Hello, I’m Chris
I’m a UK-based slow travel writer, focused on exploring Europe at a more thoughtful pace. After several years working in corporate PR, I now combine storytelling with a love of discovering places by train and overland travel.
Travel has become even more meaningful as my daughter has grown older, giving us the chance to explore Europe together on Interrail journeys – from the UK to Rome, Berlin to Croatia, and beyond.
These experiences have shaped how I travel and what I share here: that the journey itself is just as important as the destination.
Here on The Practical Traveller, you’ll find practical guides, itineraries, and ideas to help you explore Europe in a simpler, more rewarding way.
When I’m not travelling, I enjoy cooking, running, football, golf, and slowly learning German.
Most of all, I enjoy wandering new cities, discovering local food and drink, and finding the best places to watch the world go by.
